New LGBT wrestling club in Columbus, Ohio, needs your support!

In March 2011 we introduced our readers to Carlin Yetts, our 700th Facebook fan. We wrote back then that "as a resident of Columbus, Ohio, he is keen to put together a host club for the event, and is seeking other wrestlers from the state".

Now one year and 1000 fans later, Carlin has made good on his plan. Here's his update:

A year ago I began imagining creating a wrestling club here in Columbus. It's now a reality, in the form of the Cbus Wrestling Club. We are aimed at the LGBT community but all are welcome. We're a member of FGG member organization Wrestlers Without Borders, joining clubs in other major cities like San Francisco, Los Angles, Seattle, Chicago, and New York. Ohio is one of the best wrestling states in the country, and we're proud to join the ranks. With Gay Games 9 coming up in 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio I want to make sure the host state has a strong showing. Cbus Wrestling Club will show how our community in Columbus is growing, and whatever your sex or sexual orientation, you can be just as good as anybody in the wrestling world.

As an out wrestler and wrestling coach I know the advantages practicing wrestling offers in this time of gay bullying and high rate of LGBT suicide. I believe wrestling is a great sport for our community to be empowered and give a person the confidence to do anything in their life.

I have already started promoting the club and have gotten a great response. We now have a venue for training at the downtown Columbus YMCA. All we need to get started are wrestling mats. We'd really love to have your financial support to buy these mats. If you can give us a hand, or if you have any other questions about our club and how to participate, contact me at Cbuswrestlingclub@gmail.com.

Thanks!
